Gardens at Bam
BAM has 2 main gardens. The vegetable garden in the large playground area is open for students to explore during recess time with adult supervision. The BAM Allen Ginsberg Memorial Poetry Garden at the corner of Milvia & Lincoln streets is always open to the public. In addition to flowers, it also is home to fish and frogs in the small pond.
The BAM Annual Open Mic Poetry Reading is held each year the last Saturday of April, in honor of National Poetry month.
4th graders visit the garden weekly as part of their science curriculum. All classes visit the gardens with their teacher & for planting, harvesting, and weeding experience.
In 2007-2008, kindergartners planted radishes & carrots, and classes harvest and eat salad in the spring. The 4th graders produced the ingredients for pesto & pumpkin pie in winter.
The garden curriculum is volunteer-run by former BAM parent Kate Obenour. Any parent available on Wednesday to help can call Kate 548-1707.
